When it comes to doing laundry, a few extra minutes of prep before you toss a load in the washer is worth the time and saves you from unwelcome surprises.
Always make it a habit to be sure your washer is clean and free of a forgotten red sock. You would not want to wash your whites with a bright color stow-away. Just imagine how much time or money you waste re-washing or replacing your whites!
Overloading your washer may leave you with clothes that are dirtier than when you started! By packing your washer too tightly means that dirt and grime will just transfer to other items and not get completely rinsed. Always leave enough room for the wash cycle to move items freely and release water, detergent and soil down the drain.
Ask family members to mark stained areas and inspect all clothing in bright light so you don’t miss stains. Pre-treat or soak to avoid lost time. Most stains can be re-laundered while others, once heat dried will set the stain-therefore, damaging your clothing.
Taking a few extra minutes to check pockets before you wash can save hours of time in the long haul. Just to name a few culprits, chewing gum, lip balm and bright color lip stick. Although small, can damage an entire load of laundry, and use up hours of time pre-treating and re-washing, not to mention replacing.
For smaller and delicate items-like lingerie, cuts down on wear and tear, reduces tangling and saves time sorting.
Keep an eye on your dryer time, even if you need to set a timer near you, take clothes out of the dryer right away and fold or hang to avoid wrinkles and unnecessary ironing time.
With most things in life you have to make time to save time. This way you will be done with your chores and off to a day of fun and relaxation!
