Caring for Your Favorite Jeans

Everyone has a favorite pair of denim jeans. These are the jeans that we wear and wash so much that they start to become worn out. Here’s some Clean Laundry tips to keep your jeans looking just as good as the first day you wore them:

Cycle

Set your machine on the delicate or gentle cycle and use a mild detergent (such as Woolite). This allows the colors and design to stay intact and will reduce the wear and tear on your jeans.

Temperature

Always use cold to lukewarm water when washing your jeans. Hot water will shrink the fabric and wash out the color much faster. Some jeans may even need to be washed alone for the first wash.

Turn your jeans inside out

Some women’s jeans are made with medallions and rhinestones. Take special care of your jeans by turning them inside out before washing, this will help to preserve the look and save you from having to replace any embellishments. Plus, jeans have buttons, snaps, and zippers that can be damaging to other clothes in the washer, turning them inside out will help to save these garments.

No Bleach

Never use bleach or detergents containing bleach.

Fabric Softener

It’s alright to use a mild fabric softener if you desire a softer feel, but try to use it only every other wash.

Drying

If you want your jeans to last longer, it’s important to never over dry them.  Set on a delicate dry cycle or low heat, then remove them while still slightly damp and let them finish drying on a rack or clothesline.

Remember to always follow the recommended care label instructions.  It is also important to always wash with like colors to prevent bleeding into other fabrics. By taking the time and proper care, you can keep your jeans looking good for many years to come.
